What is IELTS?

Established in 1989, The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most trusted English language tests across the globe with more than 10,000 organizations recognizing it internationally. IELTS is a standardized and widely recognized English language assessment test for international education and global migration. It evaluates the English language proficiency of non-native English speakers, who wish to study in or migrate to countries.

IELTS certification is recognized by the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Europe and 140 more countries across the globe. The certification is accepted by academic institutions, companies, professional bodies and government organizations. The IELTS tests are available throughout the year in more than 1600 centers in over 140 countries.

The IELTS test is developed by some of the world's leading language experts and it is designed to evaluate your English skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking and your effectiveness in using the language to study, work and live in an English-speaking country. There are two types of IELTS:

• IELTS Regular (Academic and General Training)
• IELTS for UKVI (Academic and General Training)

Note : The IELTS test for UKVI is a UK government approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) and this test has no difference in the test format, questions, or scoring except the Test Report Form (TRF) of IELTS General. The IELTS for UKVI is designed to meet certain requirements that are specific to the UK Visas and Immigration process.

The IELTS test can be taken on paper or on a computer at one of the British Council IELTS test centres in Singapore. There is no difference in the test content, structure, timings, price and result verification between the test modes. 

• Computer-delivered IELTS: You will be typing the answers for only the Listening, Reading and Writing sections and for the Speaking test you will be having a face-to-face with a trained IELTS Examiner.
• Paper option IELTS: You will be writing the answers for the Listening, Reading and Writing sections and you will be having a face-to-face interview with the examiner for the Speaking section.

During your registration, ensure that you have your IC (local Singapore) or passport (international student) handy.
